Cordelia's Visit With President Lincoln- Continued

After four days of persuading President Lincoln, Cordelia finally got what she wanted: the permission of soldiers to go home for healing, as well as permission to construct military hospitals in the north, particularly Wisconsin. One of these military hospitals was the Soldiers' Orphans Home, which was built in 1853 as a private residence, but was transformed into an orphans home in 1866, in which Cordelia Harvey was in charge. The Soldiers' Orphans Home is pictured below:

There were two other military hospitals that were constructed in Wisconsin that housed soldiers from the war, all because of Cordelia Harvey's persistence and persuasion to finish what her husband started.
